Grant Overview
Colorado's mountainous terrain and growing urban areas create unique challenges for transportation infrastructure. The state's rugged geography and high altitude can make it difficult to maintain roads and public transportation systems, particularly in rural areas. Capacity Gaps in Colorado's Transportation Infrastructure Colorado's rapid population growth has put a strain on its transportation infrastructure, with many areas experiencing congestion and delays. Our Bicycle Accessibility Program aims to address this challenge by providing bicycles to low-income families and promoting sustainable transportation options. Who Should Apply in Colorado? Non-profit organizations and government agencies with experience in transportation infrastructure development are eligible to apply. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to provide bicycles, repair services, and safety training to low-income families in Colorado's urban areas. Colorado's Unique Transportation Challenges Unlike neighboring states, Colorado's high altitude and mountainous terrain require specialized transportation solutions. Our initiative prioritizes areas with limited public transportation options, such as the Denver metro area. By improving accessibility to bicycles, we aim to reduce traffic congestion and promote healthy living. Key outcomes will be measured by the number of bicycles distributed and the increase in biking among participating families. Colorado's Workforce Constraints The state's growing economy has created a shortage of skilled workers in the transportation sector, making it difficult to maintain and upgrade infrastructure. Our initiative will work with local workforce development agencies to identify areas for improvement and provide resources to support training programs.
